As a portrait photographer and dad, I understand that EVERY parent wants photos of their children smiling in their photos. What many parents don’t understand is that once on the wall it is the portraits of the kids not smiling are usually the ones that are most commented on – especially years later.
I am the first to admit that photos of kids happy and smiling are fantastic and get me smiling too, but what draws a deeper emotional response to an image is one where the eyes or the expression are doing the talking.
If you are looking for priceless, emotional, and ageless – don’t always go for the smiley shot. You’ll be surprised how captivating an image of your child can be without a smile.
