Personal: Skiing Japan

Japan__042I was lucky enough to experience skiing in Japan earlier this year with my youngest brother Simon and four good mates. This was my first ever trip to Japan and although we didn’t see much apart one very small part of the country on the northern island of Hokkaido I saw enough to know just how lovely the Japanese are, ever willing to please and help with any request, they are gentle, easily approachable, ever so polite, have great food, are proud and welcoming.

Wedding:Heidi & Luke

Newcastle-Wedding-Photographers_084Rain – no rain – rain – no rain, and this seemed to happen all day. We did however, manage to keep our Heidi and Luke dry all day. Miraculously, it just seemed to rain whenever we tried to get into the cars. In saying all that – I just love shooting on overcast days when the light is soft and the skies are dramatic.

News: Mattie says Thank You

DSC6798Last year my son Matthew, everyone knows him as Mattie, decided on his own to enter the Worlds Greatest Shave to raise money for much needed research into cancer and particularly leukaemia. While cancer isn’t a common topic around the house, my wife Linda has lost two of her family to the the dreadful disease and is always quick to volunteer time and money to the cancer council. I guess some of her goodness, eagerness to help and caring nature has influenced Mattie.

Testimonial: Jacqui & Chris Wilson

Jacqui & Chris have been waiting quite a while to receive her album as we photographed their wedding in Scotland and they decided to have their mum collect it while out on holidays in Australia. Not only was Jacqui’s mum guaranteed a holiday, the album would be looked after and safe on the journey back to the UK.

Well the album made it to Jacqui and Chris yesterday and below is the messages we arrived to in the studio this morning:

Hunter Valley Vineyard Wedding: Amy & Clarke

If every wedding could be like this one, wedding photography would be a simple, simple task. Looking back I’m trying to put my finger on what made the wedding of Amy and Clarke such a breeze to shoot. Simply, it was Amy’s killer smile and her eagerness to laugh, a stunning dress, gorgeous bridesmaids up for a fun day and eager to share the joy of the day with their best friend. A cool bunch of guys and a groom that made it obvious how much he loved his girl. A joyful church ceremony filled with family and close friends all in a picture perfect location – the Hunter Valley Vineyards. Simple really.

Wedding: Merissa & Ian

It was a very sticky 40 degrees in Broke, Hunter Valley, for this gorgeous wedding. I promised Merissa and Ian, that the humidity and heat were being well compensated by the dramatic skies that were going to enhance their photos. I think you will agree!

Commercial: Violet Highway

The plan for this shoot was to get some images for a new musical duo on the Coast – Violet Highway for publicity, album cover art and general promotional material. Originally we were going to shoot outdoors but as the temps hit 42 degrees we took the indoor option instead.

Wedding: Belinda & Scott

Belinda and Scott are mad about “Walt Disney’ and ‘food and wine’. This striking combination made for a very romantic wedding.

The Hunter Valley Gardens was the perfect place to capture the ‘fairytale affair’ with the gardens giving us colour and fun, on this very hot day (thank god for the golf buggies). Belinda had to have a moment on the way into the church to lift her veil and get some air.

Wedding: Lauren & Corey

This is the most difficult blog I have written – I messed up at the one wedding that I really, really, wanted to be perfect. I was actually looking for a table to hide under at the reception and in hindsight I should have taken action.

Corey and I have been working together  years now and when he asked me to photograph his marriage to Lauren I felt excited, happy and daunted all at the same time. Not only is Corey a shit-hot wedding photographer, he’s a good friend and there is always added pressure in situations like these.
